BAKE’S NUMBER ONE BUSINESS PRINCIPLE
By Robert Bake Tumuhaise
I no longer dream small because I’ve accumulated enough evidence
to prove to me that success is possible – not just for others, but for you and
I as well. I am now focused on creating more 100 jobs for Ugandans between now
and the end of 2015. I want to release 3 new books and hit the 1 million dollar
networth mark in that same period. I am determined to demonstrate results that
will inspire young people to stop crying over the delayed youth loans, rampant
corruption, inadequate education system… and get down to doing what they are
passionate about and succeed at it.
You must be asking yourself how I hope to achieve such scary
targets. Well, there are 5 key principles that I am employing in my pursuit of
these and all my other goals, but for the sake of this message I will share
with you my number one. I’ve seen this principle work for the likes of Patrick
Bitature, my mentor who also happens to be the second richest Ugandan
(according to Forbes). It was also clearly evident in the message that
millionaires Amos Wekesa and Edward Kazire passionately shared with us at the
last Authors’ Forum.
By the way, many of you have been asking why I never shared with
you the summary of what transpired at the last Authors’ Forum. The truth is
that the message was too life-changing that I could not afford to distort it.
Possibly I haven’t heard such a message in 5 years! I also refused to share it as
a way of hitting at – kwegamba kulumya – those who never took the event serious
and missed! For once I wanted to disappoint who wait to be spoon-fed. But not
all is lost; we have a DVD recording that you can get at 15k and watch for
yourself what these two titans unleashed on the theme ‘FIGHTING FOR YOUR DREAM’.
Before I get to my number one success principle, I notice that
we are left with just 4 months to end 2014. How time flies! Didn’t the year
start ‘yesterday’? Many are afraid as to whether they will achieve the New Year
resolutions they set for this year. They could have tried their best, but
haven’t seen satisfactory results yet or they could have sat back and relaxed
hoping that the government, relatives or friends will help them. Either way,
time is catching up with them.
I have a question I am asking myself right now and I challenge
you to also ask yourself: Bake, as you left home this morning, what new thing
did you plan to do differently that you've never done before so as to qualify
to expect new results? To succeed in the 21st century, we must think
and act differently. This was the genesis of the Authors’ Forum, an inspirational
event that WORLD OF INSPIRATION holds at the National Theatre, on the evening
of every 1st Wednesday of the month. I started it as a platform for
individuals who wanted to think and act in ways that set them apart; those who
wanted to create, invent, innovate. I called it ‘Authors’ Forum’, drawing
insight from the spectrum of creativity. To ‘author’ is ‘to create’. Many
people know authors as writers. But in reality, authorship goes beyond writing.
We refer to God as ‘the Author of Life’, not just to mean that he ‘wrote’ but
rather that he created life – he made something new. As co-creators with God,
we are tasked to create and innovate in order to leave this world better than
we found it.
So the Authors’ Forum brings together creators of new ideas. If
one idea has failed, give yourself a chance to try another; don’t remain stuck
in one position, repeating the same thing over and over again, yet expecting better
results. If you’ve been making losses ever since you entered a certain venture
five years ago but are still insisting in it without changing your strategies,
then you are not being persistent but rather stubborn. Same with if you have
been in a job that you hate for more than a year. You are not stuck in it; you
are not mentally lame; you can move to other opportunities.
I know that there are many people reading this article who have
financial and other burdens hanging over their necks and are wishing that
somehow they could land on a magical button they can touch and it opens the tap
to all solutions. Sorry, but there isn’t such a button. There are people whose
problems have become so perennial that they’ve been praying and fasting that a miracle
can instantly happen or else... I don’t deny that miracles happen, but I am
aware that even God want us to first do something to showcase our faith before
miracles can happen. In other words we must do something radical if we want to
see radical results.
Finally, I get to my number one business principle – investing
in people. My decade of experience in business have taught me that when you stop running after money and
instead concentrate doing what improves people’s lives, money and other
benefits will begin running after you! Somehow, these people will pay you back
by buying your products, recommending your services, notifying you of opportunities,
giving you advice, warning you of impeding danger… Even if you hide deep in the
forest, once you have unique value that you are offering, people will make a
footpath up to where you are!
Since the days of Adam and Eve, there is no human being who has
ever registered real success in any field without giving value to society
because that is the best investment you can ever male. You can never go wrong
when you give value to people; it leaves an indelible stamp on their hearts. If
you are employed or are doing business, but are not giving real value to
people, think twice. For the last five years, WORLD OF INSPIRATION, the company
I founded, has been giving value to society through publishing
inspirational literature and availing it to the people; offering skills
development through our School of Inspiration, and organising the Authors’
Forum – Uganda’s leading inspirational event where we get to learn from and
interact with the top creative, innovative and enterprising minds in the
country.
Take an example of our next Authors’ Forum that will happen on
Wednesday 3rd Sept, 5:30pm to 8:30pm, in the Main Auditorium of the
National Theatre, under the theme: MANAGING STRESS AND WORK PRESSURE. At this
event, we shall bring to you His Excellency Boney M. Katatumba, a renowned
business mogul and Honorary Consul of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to
Uganda. Katatumba joined business at the age of 7 and started with selling
banana juice on the roadside. While in secondary school, he competed with
serious businessmen and won a contract of managing a students’ hostel where he
got to employ 60 staff. While at the university, he started a car-washing business
that employed 50 people. At the age of 28 he became a millionaire, not in
Ugandan shillings, but rather in green US dollars! Talk of adding value to
society and earning big from it! There’s so much about this man – you will hear
it from the horse’s mouth come 3rd Sept!
At
the same Authors’ Forum, we shall have SAMUEL BAKUTANA, a distinguished
leadership consultant, trained counsellor, bestselling author and famous
organisational trainer also speaking to us. We shall have a celebrity
interview, mind-sharpening competitions, showcasing of rare talent, and
entertainment from a live band – all intended to help us overcome stress and
work pressure so as to give value to society and prosper. If
you are wondering how you can be part of this life-metamorphosing event, give
me a shout today on 0704666851 or 0712868424 and get your ticket at Ug Shs
40,000. With this ticket, I will also give you a free inspirational book or DVD
of your choice because I want to add value to you.
When I joined business, the first 2 years were severely trying,
financially. I would choose between boarding a taxi and having lunch. During
that period, I made a decision that effective the day I buy a car, I will
always give people lifts. So recently, I gave a lift to some strangers. Upon
arrival, they wanted to pay but I told them that I was doing it for God. One of
them shed tears as she explained that had I not assisted, she was prepared to
miss lunch because she had been left with only transport fare after buying her
child’s medicine. Imagine the joy I felt!
I admit, this message was damn long! If you’ve read it up to
this point, congratulations; you are determined to succeed. Now share the
entire message with you family, colleagues and friends via email, Facebook,
Twiiter, blogs, printed copies… Let every Ugandan discover this success secret
of giving value. That way, you will also be giving value to society – investing
in people.
Stay blessed and inspired!
