From Johannesburg
to Cairo, Kinshasa to the DRC, millions of people know Prof. Venansius
Baryamureeba – simply because his life and astounding achievements make him
stand out of the crowd. I can confidently say he is a successful man and he is
on his way to even greater success. When I say World of Inspiration is giving

These are the
marks that I always use to judge and say this person is on his/her road to
success: 1. Such a person is not afraid to think and act differently
(especially thinking and acting in ways others might call crazy). 2. Such a
person doesn’t keep talking about wanting to do things; he/she actually talks
about things he/she is already doing. In other words you will rarely hear such
a person saying: “I am going to register a business” or “I am going to write a
book”; most of what they say will be in the past or present continuous tense
e.g. “I have registered my business” or ‘I am writing my first book; I am on
the 5th chapter.” Come 1st April, the story of Prof.
Barya (as he is commonly referred to) will take you into another realm where
you will generate new energy to act on your dream NOW!
On the other hand,
failures and those on their route to failure can talk about what they want to
do and for 10 years they are still talking about what they are going to do. But
for us to succeed in the 21st century, it’s not enough to dream about what we
want to do or achieve. You must want it so much that you can't imagine yourself
without it, so much that you begin to feel it, as if you already have it.
That's how I set my goals. I feel I already have it and then that energy pushes
me to do anything, I mean anything, to achieve it. Those who know me well know
that once I have set my mind onto something you waste your time discouraging
me.
This is the same
thing with Prof. Barya. When he says he is going to do something, it doesn’t
matter whether people believe him or not, whether they support him or not; he
goes ahead and does it. This explains why he is has broken records upon records
and won numerous awards for his innovations in the field of computer science, having
been one of the youngest Africans to get a PhD in that field, but also in
leadership and other areas. We all know he rose from a teaching assistant to a
lecturer, to Head of Department, then Faculty Dean until he reached the topmost
position at Makerere University. A position such as Vice Chancellor of the
biggest university in Uganda, and one of the best on the continent, doesn’t
just fall from heaven; one has to earn it. Prof Barya is a positive thinker, an
actor, an innovator, a charismatic leader and an enterprising man. He moved
even further, and today he is Vice Chancellor of Uganda Technology and
Management University.
