HOW TO TURN IDEAS INTO MONEY

By Robert Bake Tumuhaise

I believe if you have a brain you can think; if you can think you can generate ideas; if you have ideas you can earn from them. So everyday, the people you see are walking around with ideas worth millions and billions. Some people have cracked the puzzle and now earn big from those great ideas, but the majority continue to live, and if nothing is done, I am afraid, they will die with those ideas untapped.

I am a practical person who only likes talking about what has worked for me or at least some people close to me. So when I talk of converting ideas into money, I am not going to bring theories that I have read in books or the internet; I will speak about what I know because all I have earned in my life has been out of my ideas. I have authored and sold 8 books, printing in thousands of copies and earning a net profit of Shs 10,000 to 15,000 on each copy. I have earned millions from writing songs, movie scripts, proposals, business plans… I have earned big even from just speaking to people!

WORLD OF INSPIRATION, my business, itself was born out of my idea of writing and now it has products that are impacting millions of people across the region. Imagine how many people have read our published books; how many people watch our inspirational videos; how many people attend our inspirational events; how many people listen to us on radio or watch our programs on TV; how many people we reach via the internet! The bottom line is that I am not earning from gold or silver, but rather from ideas (intellectual property).

Hear this loud and clear: In the 21st Century, success is no longer based on natural resources such as land, gas, oil, steel, e.t.c, but rather on ideas. Companies like Facebook, Amazon and Google are simply based on ideas. You don’t even need an office to start such a company; customers don’t even need to know where you are based. All they need is value from your idea. Every game has rules and once you’ve mastered the rules, you can play it. I am talking about the secret that people like Dr Mitch, a Vet Doctor, learnt and is now one of the highest paid MCs in Africa; the secrets that comedians like Kansiime Ann and Pablo, some musicians, authors, poets, radio/TV presenters e.t.c have learnt and are now earning more than the serious people you find in big office.

I have a bunch of 10 keys with which you cannot fail to earn from your ideas and without which you may never significantly earn from your ideas. I will be sharing these keys/points at the Authors’ Forum happening at the National Theatre on Wednesday 5th Nov, 5:30pm to 8:30pm whose theme is ‘TURNING IDEAS INTO MONEY’. I will be joined by 3 top entrepreneurs who have earned from their ideas millions of times more than myself and we shall battle it out in a debate. The audience (you) will be allowed to comment, ask questions, seek advice regarding your ideas… I believe the 400 people who will attend will all come out with practical ways in which they can start turning their ideas into money the next day. Everyone will also be able to tell which ideas are good and which ones are bad and won’t attract money.

All you need to do is call me on 0704666851 / 0712868424 or Winnie on 0774107287 / 0414691595 and secure your entry ticket. Each goes for Shs 40,000, but this coming week I am giving an offer whereby you can get a ticket at Shs 35,000 and if you are a group of 3 people and above, you will get each ticket at Shs 30,000. And as usual, each one of you will still get a free inspirational book or DVD of your choice. The discount offer expires on 25th Oct.

In my next message, I will share with you one or two of the points that I will present at the event and also tell you about a woman whom we shall host to testify on how she slapped multiple fatal ailments (including diabetes, high cholesterol and obesity) without medication. This episode of the Authors’ Forum is meant to fire you up so that in the remaining two months of 20Fortune (2014), you can achieve more results in whatever you do than ever. And how can you not share/forward this life-changing message to all your contacts?

EXPERIENCES THAT MAKE YOUR HEART GO AAAW!

By Robert Bake Tumuhaise

I have never had a painful experience that is even close to what I had at Mulago hospital today. It was not physical, but emotional pain – that which drills a bottomless pit in your heart that you feel might never be filled. Time-check, it’s 6:45am and I am right at the counter the doctor instructed me to go to for my patient to be transferred to the relevant section of the hospital that handles her ailment. Seeing no line, I feel proud to have arrived in time (15 minutes earlier than expected). The counter is empty but I wait with hope. Between 7am and 7:30am, about 3 uniformed people come and sit at that counter for some minutes and I try to talk to them but none of them even responds to my ‘Good Morning”. I take it easy. Possibly it isn’t their work and so they have no business responding to anyone’s questions. One kind cleaner looks at me and suspects I must be there for the first time. She lovingly directs me to the Records Office (I could see kindness in her eyes). 7:53am, I knock and no one responds despite the office harbouring 4 officers who were talking about everything happening in Uganda – from politics to corruption, fashion, soccer, KCCA.... I enter and this stern-faced man remarks, “Where did such people grow up from? Can’t you see that you are supposed to stand outside and wait from there?” (I don’t know how I was supposed to ‘see’ that). “But I…,” before I could ask any question he interrupts me – all to emphasize that I wasn’t supposed to enter. After waiting for about 30 minutes and people were beginning to enter, I also forcefully enter again and insist on telling them why I was there, without caring whether they were listening or not. They ask me for the medical documents; I give them all the doctors had given us and they say there are two missing – a referral note and a consent note (I wonder why the doctor had just referred us verbally yet he knows those documents are required). By then I have been joined by my sister. Well, we call him and he tells us he is on his way. We wait for another hour and a half and he gives us what was needed. We return to the Records Office and they receive the documents. I am happy that at long last my patient is going to be attended to only to be told again to go outside and wait. Another hour passes but we couldn’t be given any minute to ask what first aid we can give to our patient. I felt like breaking into the locker, getting a drip and glucose and fixing it on my mum in the car at least to revive some energy, but I remember I studied history, CRE, psychology and sociology, none of which involved needles. NB: It’s now already midday and we haven’t even finished the first step of having our patient’s name recorded and a file created). I insist on informing them that our case is an emergency and they tell me they are tired of that word; they have seen so many emergencies. Turning on the side, I see a man whose foot was practically rotten, with some bones being seen. He was inquiring from a hospital staff whether he can see a doctor and he was asked how he could come at midday to see a doctor if he was using his brain. Apparently, he should have come very early (but can’t a patient be respected even if he came late? Did he know Mulago’s schedule?) For a moment I feel like forgetting about what had taken me there and help this man, but I restrained myself. Another hour passes and we haven’t had our patient’s name registered. I peep again and look at this lady whose face suggests she is kinder (or rather less harsh) than her colleagues (but how wrong I was)! She tells me to stop peeping or else I would be punished for being big-headed instead of being calm (but how can I be calm when I have a 75-year old mum who can’t eat, can’t turn, can’t sit, who is just lying in the car, under the scotching sun?) At this point I choose to reflect on life generally. How many years do we have on earth and how can we make them more meaningful? Does everyone deserve a job? Do those who interview applicants for jobs in hospitals consider the nature of the candidates’ hearts? I realise there are people who work like they are forced to. Yet there are many good doctors, nurses and other medical practitioners I know who give you all the hope, love, care and comfort in the world that even when your problem is as big as a mountain, you see it as a small anthill. You feel you are in the right hands, no matter what follows. Possibly the major reason we came to Mulago was because that case could not be handled elsewhere in the country. Should I blame the government for this behaviour of some Mulago staff? No. Should I say “Tusaba gavumenti Etuyambe?” No. What this has taught me to do is pursue my dream further, inspire as many people as I can, impact millions of medical practitioners to love what they do, make billions of money so I can do charity (yes, in my retirement I will use my own money to build a hospital where people will access free medical help)… It’s now coming to evening and I am yet to see any help from Mulago. For now, I have decided to step out of the hospital to attend to something, but also to free my mind a little and then return to my mum when I am once again inspired and positive-minded. But I know that, in heaven above, there is someone more powerful than you and I, more powerful than all the equipment and staff at Mulago, more powerful than all the drugs that can ever be created. I rest in the confidence that there is a God whose power is unmatchable, his love unbeatable, his touch irresistible, his promise unchangeable, and so my faith in him is unshakable. I know he will heal my mum and all other patients who are calling upon his name. The same power that conquered the grave, divided the Red Sea, kept Daniel alive amidst lions, healed a woman who had been bleeding for 12 years, made Peter walk on water, pulled Lazarus out of the grave… lives in us. Jesus, by your stripes, mum is healed. Amen!

WINNING SUCCESS THROUGH THE POWER OF NEGOTIATION

By Robert Bake Tumuhaise

One of the habits that differentiate those on their way to success from those on their way to failure is negotiation. If you have been keen, you have noticed that successful people, when buying anything, will always negotiate for a discount. It’s only the poor who feel ashamed to ask for a discount; they are worried of what the seller or the observers might think. On the other hand, success-minded people are only concerned with how much value they will gain/save by bargaining.

See? It all comes to VALUE ADDITION, a secret that I will reveal later; for now, let us focus on negotiation. I know this is most probably not among the skills you were taught in school, yet it is as important to success as oxygen is to the body. Everyday, we find we have to negotiate over something. When you get to dating, there’s negotiation. If you are looking for, or giving a job, you negotiate over the terms. If your colleague is influencing you to go to the bar instead of going for an inspirational event that adds value to your life such as the Authors’ Forum, you have to negotiate your way out. At some point, even governments have to negotiate with their enemies.

Negotiation skills will always help you get the best deal. If you are the one paying always negotiate to give the minimum and if you are the one receiving always negotiate to get the maximum. Avoid always being on the losing end. Don’t always be the one to sacrifice and give so much all the time. If I am giving to charity, I give wholeheartedly. But if it is business, then I must make sure I am at the best end of the bargain. Do you know a seller could ask you 100,000/= for an item whose actual price is 10,000/=? If you are ashamed of bargaining, good luck!

There is this amazing lady I met recently and wondered where I had been all my life! With her Solomon-like wisdom, she advised me on how to enhance my thinking to make the best decisions daily, a think that has since worked for me. She also shared with me golden ideas on agriculture, health, education, personal development, career growth, product development, creativity and innovation. By the time I left her home, I had already decided that ALL my friends (including you) MUST also taste on this wisdom. So I invited her to the next Authors’ Forum to speak on VALUE ADDITION. She is such an extremely busy woman that it could take you months to secure an appointment with her, God’s grace is bringing her to spend an evening with us!

If you know PROF. FLORENCE MURANGA, Executive Director of Presidential Initiative on Banana Industrial Development (PIBID), then you know that her wisdom is worth boarding a plane for; it’s worth cancelling all other appointment for; it’s worth postponing a date for; it’s worth borrowing for – just to be there. Ladies and gentlemen, the fascinating lady I am talking about is going to be the inspirational speaker of the month at the Authors’ Forum next Wednesday 1st October, starting 5:30pm, at the National Theatre. Come enjoy with the rest of the titans as she inspires us to unleash our greatest greatness. All you need to do is call me on 0704666851 or my colleagues on 0774107287 / 0414691595 and secure your ticket at 40,000 UGX. There you will also get a bonus of an inspirational book or DVD of your choice.

This Authors’ Forum is going to be uniquely inspiring and infortaining. Also in the house will be MOSES GOLOLA OF UGANDA, the famous kick-boxer who single-handedly raised himself to the global sunshine of success. Who else can demonstrate Value Addition, the day’s theme, than he who has put Uganda on the international map? Golola has added value not only to himself but also to the entertainment and sports industries and to the country. Come witness his tenacity that has propelled him to such unimaginable fame – not forgetting his humour. Need I mention that there will also be an inspirational live band, sizzling poetry and much more?

Well, this is where I remind you of the power of negotiation that I started with. Mobilise your friends, workmates, relatives, neighbours… and make five plus, and I will allow you negotiate for a juicy discount on each ticket. This offer of runs up to 25th Sept. If you own a business or head an organization/institution, here is your chance to prove that you value your staff and clients by bringing your team to this event that’s going to significantly increase your value and market share. NB: Sharing this message with all your contacts is another act of VALUE ADDITION.

Till we meet on 1st Oct, stay blessed and inspired!

BAKE’S NUMBER ONE BUSINESS PRINCIPLE

By Robert Bake Tumuhaise

I no longer dream small because I’ve accumulated enough evidence to prove to me that success is possible – not just for others, but for you and I as well. I am now focused on creating more 100 jobs for Ugandans between now and the end of 2015. I want to release 3 new books and hit the 1 million dollar networth mark in that same period. I am determined to demonstrate results that will inspire young people to stop crying over the delayed youth loans, rampant corruption, inadequate education system… and get down to doing what they are passionate about and succeed at it.

You must be asking yourself how I hope to achieve such scary targets. Well, there are 5 key principles that I am employing in my pursuit of these and all my other goals, but for the sake of this message I will share with you my number one. I’ve seen this principle work for the likes of Patrick Bitature, my mentor who also happens to be the second richest Ugandan (according to Forbes). It was also clearly evident in the message that millionaires Amos Wekesa and Edward Kazire passionately shared with us at the last Authors’ Forum.

By the way, many of you have been asking why I never shared with you the summary of what transpired at the last Authors’ Forum. The truth is that the message was too life-changing that I could not afford to distort it. Possibly I haven’t heard such a message in 5 years! I also refused to share it as a way of hitting at – kwegamba kulumya – those who never took the event serious and missed! For once I wanted to disappoint who wait to be spoon-fed. But not all is lost; we have a DVD recording that you can get at 15k and watch for yourself what these two titans unleashed on the theme ‘FIGHTING FOR YOUR DREAM’.

Before I get to my number one success principle, I notice that we are left with just 4 months to end 2014. How time flies! Didn’t the year start ‘yesterday’? Many are afraid as to whether they will achieve the New Year resolutions they set for this year. They could have tried their best, but haven’t seen satisfactory results yet or they could have sat back and relaxed hoping that the government, relatives or friends will help them. Either way, time is catching up with them.

I have a question I am asking myself right now and I challenge you to also ask yourself: Bake, as you left home this morning, what new thing did you plan to do differently that you've never done before so as to qualify to expect new results? To succeed in the 21st century, we must think and act differently. This was the genesis of the Authors’ Forum, an inspirational event that WORLD OF INSPIRATION holds at the National Theatre, on the evening of every 1st Wednesday of the month. I started it as a platform for individuals who wanted to think and act in ways that set them apart; those who wanted to create, invent, innovate. I called it ‘Authors’ Forum’, drawing insight from the spectrum of creativity. To ‘author’ is ‘to create’. Many people know authors as writers. But in reality, authorship goes beyond writing. We refer to God as ‘the Author of Life’, not just to mean that he ‘wrote’ but rather that he created life – he made something new. As co-creators with God, we are tasked to create and innovate in order to leave this world better than we found it.

So the Authors’ Forum brings together creators of new ideas. If one idea has failed, give yourself a chance to try another; don’t remain stuck in one position, repeating the same thing over and over again, yet expecting better results. If you’ve been making losses ever since you entered a certain venture five years ago but are still insisting in it without changing your strategies, then you are not being persistent but rather stubborn. Same with if you have been in a job that you hate for more than a year. You are not stuck in it; you are not mentally lame; you can move to other opportunities.

I know that there are many people reading this article who have financial and other burdens hanging over their necks and are wishing that somehow they could land on a magical button they can touch and it opens the tap to all solutions. Sorry, but there isn’t such a button. There are people whose problems have become so perennial that they’ve been praying and fasting that a miracle can instantly happen or else... I don’t deny that miracles happen, but I am aware that even God want us to first do something to showcase our faith before miracles can happen. In other words we must do something radical if we want to see radical results.

Finally, I get to my number one business principle – investing in people. My decade of experience in business have taught me that when you stop running after money and instead concentrate doing what improves people’s lives, money and other benefits will begin running after you! Somehow, these people will pay you back by buying your products, recommending your services, notifying you of opportunities, giving you advice, warning you of impeding danger… Even if you hide deep in the forest, once you have unique value that you are offering, people will make a footpath up to where you are!

Since the days of Adam and Eve, there is no human being who has ever registered real success in any field without giving value to society because that is the best investment you can ever male. You can never go wrong when you give value to people; it leaves an indelible stamp on their hearts. If you are employed or are doing business, but are not giving real value to people, think twice. For the last five years, WORLD OF INSPIRATION, the company I founded, has been giving value to society through publishing inspirational literature and availing it to the people; offering skills development through our School of Inspiration, and organising the Authors’ Forum – Uganda’s leading inspirational event where we get to learn from and interact with the top creative, innovative and enterprising minds in the country.

Take an example of our next Authors’ Forum that will happen on Wednesday 3rd Sept, 5:30pm to 8:30pm, in the Main Auditorium of the National Theatre, under the theme: MANAGING STRESS AND WORK PRESSURE. At this event, we shall bring to you His Excellency Boney M. Katatumba, a renowned business mogul and Honorary Consul of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to Uganda. Katatumba joined business at the age of 7 and started with selling banana juice on the roadside. While in secondary school, he competed with serious businessmen and won a contract of managing a students’ hostel where he got to employ 60 staff. While at the university, he started a car-washing business that employed 50 people. At the age of 28 he became a millionaire, not in Ugandan shillings, but rather in green US dollars! Talk of adding value to society and earning big from it! There’s so much about this man – you will hear it from the horse’s mouth come 3rd Sept!

At the same Authors’ Forum, we shall have SAMUEL BAKUTANA, a distinguished leadership consultant, trained counsellor, bestselling author and famous organisational trainer also speaking to us. We shall have a celebrity interview, mind-sharpening competitions, showcasing of rare talent, and entertainment from a live band – all intended to help us overcome stress and work pressure so as to give value to society and prosper. If you are wondering how you can be part of this life-metamorphosing event, give me a shout today on 0704666851 or 0712868424 and get your ticket at Ug Shs 40,000. With this ticket, I will also give you a free inspirational book or DVD of your choice because I want to add value to you.

When I joined business, the first 2 years were severely trying, financially. I would choose between boarding a taxi and having lunch. During that period, I made a decision that effective the day I buy a car, I will always give people lifts. So recently, I gave a lift to some strangers. Upon arrival, they wanted to pay but I told them that I was doing it for God. One of them shed tears as she explained that had I not assisted, she was prepared to miss lunch because she had been left with only transport fare after buying her child’s medicine. Imagine the joy I felt!

I admit, this message was damn long! If you’ve read it up to this point, congratulations; you are determined to succeed. Now share the entire message with you family, colleagues and friends via email, Facebook, Twiiter, blogs, printed copies… Let every Ugandan discover this success secret of giving value. That way, you will also be giving value to society – investing in people.

Stay blessed and inspired!

TIME-TESTED WAYS TO ACHIEVE YOUR WILDEST DREAMS

By Robert Bake Tumuhaise – MD, WORLD OF INSPIRATION
Capturing the key lessons from the last AUTHORS’ FORUM

“If you think of an idea for so long without acting, drop it to create room for new ideas!” Those words by Sadiq Ali Bohra, the Pakistani businessman who featured in the Celeb Interview at the last Authors’ Forum jolted me out of my comfort zone. From the way he talks and conducts himself, Sadiq is a very humble guy, a trait that has been instrumental in rallying people behind his HenBerg brand. His 21 years of business experience, has taught him many lessons some of which he shared with us: 1. Some things cannot be learnt in school; we have to start and learn them on job. 2. Asians are great at business because their culture ensures that everyone gets exposed to money and business at a young age (in his case, he joined at 15). 3. For us to succeed we should not look at quick fixes; we should start projects looking at results benefiting even the next generations.

I could go on and on, but can I really exhaust what that business guru unveiled? Having written for BBC and Dawns (the longest and most selling newspaper in Pakistan), he also had a lot of advice to writers. All this you will find on the video recording if you order for your own copy at 15,000/= by calling 0774107287 / 0414691595. For now, I must continue the story. Not to the Byamukamas! First was Eng Byamukama Joseph, the famous guitarist, who performed a song of love that filled all the emotional potholes in my heart. Then there was another  Bkyamukama – Dismus – who featured in the Testimony of the Month segment. From having only 40,000 shillings in his life in 2012 to now owning a house of 150 million shillings and several thriving businesses is not an easy feat.

Well, Byamukama explained the details of how he has advanced at such a Kiprotich speed. One of his secret weapons has been reading, courtesy of the Authors’ Forum. In his testimony he quoted not less than 10 authors, a sign that leaders are readers! He said it all started when he joined the Authors’ Forum and learnt that the right mindset boosted by action can multiply anything. So with his capital of 40,000 shillings, he bought 2 shirts, each at 15,000 and sold each at 40,000. He kept re-investing the money back into the trade. At one point he involved his OBs by giving them shirts to sell to their friends at any price as long as they bring him his 40,000 shillings per shirt… (You will get the entire testimony on the DVD).

There are so many lessons we can draw from Byamuakama’s testimony. One of them is that we can start from where we are. In his case, he started selling his products to his friends and workmates, using small capital. The second lesson is that it matters who you network with. He was clearly networking with the right people who could buy his products and also join him in selling! He quoted the words he had heard Ethan Musolini mention at the Authors’ Forum a few years ago: “You cannot become an eagle if you always hang out with ducks!”

When it came to the inspirational speaker of the month – Wanja Odhiambo – she proved that she is a woman who eats, drinks, breathes and spits fire – the fire of inspiration! “You can’t price something when you don’t know its value,” were her words as she delved into helping us discover our value. Her own experience of going to the UK, her permit expiring and spending months and months staying with a friend without any income, and later starting one of the most globally reviewed and awarded African Restaurants in England was very touching. Indeed, as we had promised, her inspiration was smellable, feelable and touchable! She spoke with energy – leaving no doubt that successful people are made by their dreams, thoughts, decisions and actions.

Wanja’s message eliminated from our minds the thinking that we do not have enough resources to get to where we want to be. We do not need anyone – not even the government – to help us. At the speed of lightening she listed so many resources that Uganda has, which if tapped we can fly to our destiny. She highlighted the things that devalue us as well as those that increase our value, and thus which we can leverage to set our prices. That’s just a jaribu – for her real message watch the DVD. For subscribed members, remember you are entitled to a free DVD every month. Before I tell you what actually stole the show, I will remind you that the Authors’ Forum we are talking about took place at the National Theatre on the evening of 2nd July. The next episode is scheduled for Wednesday 6th August, 5:30pm to 8:30pm, same venue. We shall be hosting other great authors who have created new ideas that are impacting the world. Let me just whisper this: Dr Edward Kazire will be back! When we hosted him 2 months ago, his message was so powerful and fireful that we didn’t want him to end; but we had to respect time. Due to public demand, he is returning to share with us on the topic: FIGHTING FOR YOUR DREAM. He told us how one time he was met carrying a sack of herbs and gossip spread all over that there was a mad graduate in the village. One wonders what really kept him afloat till he managed to build a 10-billion business, despite all discouraging forces that should have pushed him to give up on his dream. More good news: This week (until 13th July), we are giving a 10,000 shillings discount on each ticket, meaning you pay 30,000 instead of 40,000 and yet still get your free inspirational book/DVD. Call those numbers.

Finally, the highlight of the day was the ‘Graduation Ceremony’ of 4 ladies and 1 gentleman who received their certificated after completing ACTION PLANNING – a self-discovery course offered by the School of Inspiration at WORLD OF INSPIRATION. For those who were present, you heard from the horse’s mouth how the course changed their lives. One of the things they pointed out was the test they passed of earning from their hobbies and other activities they had never earned from! Well, registration for the next intake is on and classes kick off this Saturday 12th July. Through this course, you will get to understand the concepts of mission, vision and goals and how they relate to your daily life, work and dreams. You will discover your purpose in life and how your talents & passions relate to it. You will be guided in developing the habits and skills you need to achieve your dreams. This course will empower you to choose which projects, businesses or jobs suit your calling and how to align your daily thoughts, decisions and actions using a simple tool – action plan. With this course, procrastination will be a word of the past.

The entire course is covered in six weekly 3-hour sessions that are flexibly arranged at the convenience of the participants. For this upcoming intake, the sessions will be running for six weeks starting 12th July 2014, 10am to 1pm, at IPS Building. For now, the course fee (also covering the training materials and a certificate) is 300,000 UGX (soon to be revised). NB:  Authors’ Forum subscribed members pay only half. Call Bake Robert (Managing Director – 0704666851) or Peter Opata (Manager, School of Inspiration – 0702000808) or Ann Zungu (Operations Manager – 0758409081 / 0414691595) to pay and book your slot.

Stay blessed and inspired!
