THE DANGER OF THINKING YOU ARE WORKING SMART

#EntrepreneurshipSeries: There is no short-cut to success that does not involve hard work. Don’t be too fast to talk about smart work if you haven’t persistently worked hard on your dream.

There is a very wrong attitude cropping up in Uganda these days. Some people want to earn without working. I often get people begging me to buy them lunch and when I tell them to come and I give them work so that they can earn that lunch, they look at me with the ‘you_think_Iam_that-cheap’ look and walk away. They somehow think they are entitled to getting money without working.

When you send such a person with 150,000 shillings to WORLD OF INSPIRATION to buy for you books, he will bring you only 3 books and tell you that the prices increased and hence there is no balance. In fact, he will tell you how he used his own money for transport and ask you for a refund. Yet this week WORLD OF INSPIRATION is selling 5 books at 100,000! So he will make a difference of over 50,000 from you and call that smart work. But that's not smart work. It is not even work. It’s stealing.

For some people, working smart means earning without working. That’s far from the truth. Working smart means that you persistently worked so hard, got results, but with experience kept learning and figuring out how to put in less time and effort yet achieving the same results or even more. So, smart work, does not exclude hard work; it builds on hard work. Hence, if you want to earn good money, start by working hard and along the way you will master how you can bring in smart work. Money is a tool that facilitates exchange of value, meaning that to get it you must give some equivalent value back. If you see rich person, know that he/she has been consistently giving great value to society. Even if you inherit wealth or win it, you cannot maintain and grow it if you are not adding value to society.

Today, I recommend for you HE TAUGHT ME TO DREAM, written by Dr Rosemary Byanyima, featuring the success story of her dad, JOSEPH BYANYIMA. The book was written in honor of Mzee Byanyima at his 90th birthday. I took that photo on the cover about 2 months to his 90th birthday, but see how young he looks. He is healthy and still drives his car! This is a man who rose from being a simple primary teacher to a teacher's tutor and later to a head of a Teacher Training College. Today, in his retirement, he owns a school, a great farm and a mega tree plantation.

Following in his footsteps, his daughter whom he taught to dream, became a leading scientist in the field of radiology (diagnosing disease using scans and x-rays). She sits on international boards in that field. In fact she is one of the owners of KAMPALA IMAGING CENTRE, which is a fast growing business with 4 branches in Uganda.

This book is a must-read for anyone who wants to dream big and also inspire his/her children to also dream big. If you have interest in the school/education business, you urgently need this book. A copy costs only 30k. Remember, this week, we have the #Save50k promotion in which we are giving you 5 books (worth 150k) at only 100k. Include this book #HeTaughtMeToDream in the package you choose. I am at WORLD OF INSPIRATION (located at LLOYDS MALL Entebbe Road) waiting to serve you. If you need me to send your package, call me on 0704666851, 0779911844.
